1993

1993 - The release of 'VS', the band's second album.

They toured Britain again, visiting many of the songs from Ten, and having used the dates with Neil Young to preview the new album, they were ready for a big year.

They returned to America to finish of the album, which was ready for release in October 1993.

Before that, they kicked ass at the MTV Awards in September, winning four of the five categories they were nominated for.

In front of an audience of over 400 million, they gave a sneak preview of 'Animal' and were then joined by Neil Young for the now familiar Rockin in the Free World encore.

In selling over 1.2 million copies in it's first five days of release in the US alone, 'VS', released in October, it doubled the previous record held by Guns n' Roses  'Use your Illusion II'' back in 1991, which sold 770,000 copies. This made it the fastest selling album ever released in America.   VS still holds that tittle.

After which, they toured America, and the support acts were impressive also, with Mudhoney, The Rollins band, Butthole Surfers and Urge Overkill, all as opening acts.

A massive MTV concert to be broadcast on New years eve, alongside Nirvana and Soundgarden had to be cancelled the day before, because apparently Eddie's voice was shot, and he was exhausted.

October, 25, 1993 - Eddie appears on the cover of TIME magazine. Much to his disappointment:
'' I didn't see being on the cover of TIME as an accomplishment. more as a nail in the coffin. Iam worried about the whole hype thing, if people start seeing your faces everywhere, Iam afraid they'll get turned off.''

In February, Eddie excepted an invitation to appear at Roger Daltrey's 50th Birthday alongside other rock stars, his performance was incredible, most of the other acts were heckled badly.
As he walked offstage, he said to a waiting friend, ''excuse me, theres something I must do.''
He broke down, and trashed the dressing room, smashing everything, and leaving the message, 'This is my generation, baby'  on the walls in what looked like blood.
